Pennsylvania Deregulation History

PENNSYLVANIA ENERGY CHOICE

Energy Deregulation gives citizens in Pennsylvania the power to choose their supplier.

The deregulation of electricity generation is now fully implemented in Pennsylvania. In the deregulated environment, electricity will be just another commodity. Unlike most commodities, however, electricity cannot be effectively stored and therefore needs to be traded on an instantaneous basis when needed.

DEREGULATED SERVICES

With competition, energy suppliers sell energy commodities to you and provide functions such as customer service, pricing structure, and billing options. These companies purchase electricity from competing power plants, and electricity is delivered to your home or business over the poles and wires of your local Utility Company.

Energy Providers compete for your business by offering lower prices, renewable energy options, added customer service benefits or other incentives. With energy deregulation, you now have the ability to choose the Provider that best fits your needs. If you do not choose an Energy Provider, your energy service will be provided by a company affiliated with your local wire company

No matter which energy supplier provides your service, the Public Utility Commission continues to enforce customer protections and regulate the delivery of electricity to ensure it is delivered safely and reliably by the local wires company.

Energy Deregulation gives energy consumers the option and the “power to choose” their Energy provider in deregulated markets as permitted by the state public utilities governing body.
